The all American girl
December 19th 2007 13:27
Recently I wrote an email to my all American friend. Well the reason was that I watched "Sex and the City" and after the girls had a talk about Big, I couldnt help, but wonder...how is my all American friend doing.
I learned that with being 29, single and on the American dating market, life is not a piece of cake...it is a big piece, but nevertheless not cake!
Apparently, if you are not married in the US by 24, you will have 'big' troubles getting to know someone, whithout the someone wanting to marry you right away. Because with 29 only the freaks and nerds are not married. However if you are my friend then everyone wants to marry you, because you are the only single, non-married normal person in the US.
And this is where I come in...Germans, as we all know, are very different to the Americans when it comes to marriage and dating. If you are married in Germany by 24, you are a nerd or a freak or at your best, divorced by 26.
So basically, me being 23, going on 19, it wouldnt make any sense to want to marry my all American friend, unless that this me wants to be an all American girl. Hmmmm, where does that come from, one might wonder. let me tell you.
Dating an American is very simple, there are set rules: first date, you talk and touch, on the arm or hand that is. Second date, you go out again for dinner (he pays of course) and maybe see a movie, nothing however will happen. On the third date you HAVE to kiss. If he is not kissing you then, that is it, bye bye....
Or you do it like me and jump over the three steps and end up in bed right away, like I said, simple rules.
So now, unlike the Germans you don't have to wait for half your life to get married. This is were the Germans have their set rules. First five years dating, then the next five years living together and then if you can still say "I love you" (that comes in after three years) ,then you might wanna consider getting married. So to cut a long story short, the time you could have children you are either a hundred or infertile or probably both.
to be continued...
